AVEDA Hair Product Questions:

1. Do Aveda products contain parabens?

At Aveda, we are guided by a fundamental philosophy where health and safety are our first priorities. Delivering a microbiologically safe product to our network is one of our most important commitments. Aveda's mission and principles, on which the company was founded, have always steered us toward preferring pure flower and plant essences to petrochemicals. Because the Company constantly targets and tracks expanded use of plant-derived content in its formulas, Aveda actively researched plant-based alternatives to parabens and no longer manufacture any products formulated with parabens.

2. Do Aveda products contain sulfates?

We do not use SLS or SLES in our shampoos. However, we do use ammonium lauryl sulphate derived from coconut and coco-babassu sulphate derived from coconut and babassu (utilising Aveda’s exclusive Babassu technology). Both of these are foaming ingredients used for cleansing, but the Aveda difference is that we always use babassu or coconut as the source for these foaming ingredients where some other companies will use petroleum or animal by-products. Although these ingredients have the same name on the label regardless of its derivation, in Aveda products you know they have a plant origin. As part of meeting the preferences of all our consumers, as well as achieving certain specific product benefits, Aveda has offered sulfate-free shampoos since 1996 and currently offers 5 shampoos formulated without sulfates: Scalp BenefitsTM Balancing Shampoo, Damage Remedy Restructuring Shampoo, Dry Remedy Moisturising Shampoo, Men Pure-Formance Shampoo and Invati Exfoliating Shampoo. Aveda shampoos are carefully formulated to provide specific product performance benefits, which may require the foaming characteristics provided by plant-derived sulphates, and all Aveda shampoos thoroughly evaluated to deliver desired outcomes in protecting color, treating dry hair, adding shine or other attributes for the particular shampoo. Aveda also currently offers ten sulfate-free skin cleansing products. Caribbean Therapy Body Cleanser, Green Science Perfecting Cleanser, Enbrightenment Brightening Cleanser, Outer Peace Foaming Cleanser, Personal Blends Smoothing Body Formula, Pure Comfort Eye Makeup Remover, Botanical Kinetics Purifying Creme Cleanser, Botanical Kinetics Purifying Gel Cleanser, Smoothing Body Polish and Tourmaline Charged Exfoliating Cleanser.

3. Do Aveda products contain gluten based ingredients?

At this time we do not have a listing of Aveda products that are gluten free to offer you. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause you.

Consumers will find ingredient listings on our packaging, in accordance with Australian regulations, using names which are standard throughout the cosmetic industry. Because of the vast number of raw materials from different sources, it is not possible to guarantee that our products are completely free of any gluten.

4. Do Aveda products contain nuts?

Lotus Salon always do our best to ensure a nut-free environment for our clients. As you may be aware, people allergic to peanuts may also react to soybeans, peas, other legumes and tree nuts, such as walnuts and Brazil nuts. It has been acknowledged in the medical community that tree nut allergic reactions coexist in nearly one third of the peanut allergic population. For this reason, Lotus Salon and Aveda take a very serious and conservative approach in responding to this question. A vast number of raw materials from many different suppliers and sources are used in the manufacture of Aveda products. It is therefore not possible for us to fully guarantee that our products are completely free of ingredients that may elicit an allergic response in highly sensitive individuals who react to legumes and nuts. For example, it is possible that small amounts of a soybean sourced ingredient or trace amounts of peanut oil may remain on shared manufacturing equipment even after a thorough cleaning. Even trace amounts of allergens may trigger a severe reaction when a peanut sensitive individual comes in contact with them (i.e., hugging/kissing your peanut sensitive child while wearing cosmetics). We therefore recommend that you discuss this with your physician because consumer safety is of utmost concern to us.

5. Are Aveda products vegan/vegetarian?

Although Aveda products are not certified Vegetarian or Vegan, the overwhelming majority of our products contain no animal derived ingredients. A very small number of products may contain beeswax, honey, or whey- based protein.

6. Are Aveda skin and hair products tested on animals?

When visiting Lotus Salon you can rest assured all our Aveda products are NOT tested on animals, so you can be sure that you’re beautiful inside and out.

General Hair Salon Questions:

7. How far in advance should I book my appointment?

We suggest clients schedule their hair appointments at the start of the week if looking to make a week day visit to the salon. While we will always do our best to accommodate clients at the last minute, we do suggest pre-booking your next appointment before leaving the salon, especially if you wish to see a specific hair dresser or have special occasion coming up. Walk-ins are always welcome, but scheduled bookings will obviously have priority.

8. Will you remind me of my appointment?

9. When should I arrive?

We know it’s not always possible to arrive early for your hair treatment, but suggest you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment if you can. This will give you plenty of time to relax, be pampered before your treatment and make any special requests or questions you may have for your hair stylist.

10. What if I am late?

If you do happen to find yourself running late for your appointment, if you can please give us a quick call to let us know, then we can do our best to still fit you in and make arrangements for our other scheduled clients appointments. Obviously, we will do our best to accommodate you whenever possible.

11. Do you share my personal information (address, email, phone) with anyone else?

We do NOT share any of your personal information ever.

Hair Styles & Hair Colouring Questions:

12. Can I cut and colour my hair at the same day?

Yes. We suggest that you schedule your colour appointment first though.

13. Should I wash my hair before colouring it or getting an updo?

No. Washing the hair strips away its natural oils. When creating an updo, the natural oils in the hair give it better holding properties and make it easier to work with. Natural oil is perfect protection, it is creates buffer between skin and the colour.

14. What if I don't like my haircut or colour that I received at Lotus Salon?

If you are not 100% satisfied you are more than welcome to come back for a complimentary redo with the same hair stylist or another.

15. How often should I get my haircut?

If you are looking for a wash and wear style that requires a minimum amount of styling, the secret lies in regular trims every 4-6 weeks. The new bobs are so easy to care for, as they seem to fall into place.

16. How long does a colour job last?

Colour should last 4-6 weeks, highlights 6-12 weeks. Colour is a commitment and requires a little extra care if it's to retain its vibrancy and shine.

17. What shampoo should I use to protect my colour-treated hair?

When you visit Lotus Salon for a colour treatment, our friendly staff will be able to recommend the very latest and best suited natural Aveda products for you - this enables the hair to retain the desired tint.

18. What styles are out?

If you haven't received a compliment on your hair lately, it's safe to say your style is out and it's time to make a change. Take notice to the hairstyles in fashion magazines and on television, if your look does not exist, shop for a new hairdresser!

19. What colour line do you use?

In our salon we use only natural and organic Aveda colour treatments.

21. Can I come in for a consultation?

Yes. We love to meet our clients, find out what their hair goals are and how we can reach those goals together. We do this free of charge.

22. Can you teach me how to do my hair?

Absolutely, that is our specialty. We’re always happy and teach you how we are styling your hair. Our goal is to have you look your best after you hair style or treatment. After all, our best form of advertising is your hair!
